Learning kitchen basics and simple recipes is a powerful way to build independence, confidence, and life skills for individuals with disabilities. Understanding foundational tasks—like measuring ingredients, following step-by-step directions, and practicing safe food handling—creates opportunities for greater self-sufficiency in daily life. Preparing easy recipes allows individuals to experience success, express creativity, and take pride in something they’ve made themselves.
Beyond practical skills, cooking also supports social connection, communication, and sensory engagement. It can strengthen fine and gross motor skills, reinforce routines, and provide meaningful opportunities for choice-making and problem-solving. Most importantly, learning to prepare food fosters dignity and empowerment, helping individuals participate more fully in their homes and communities.
Cooking classes are for ages 13 and up only and are an hour and a half long to allow time for kitchen safety instruction, clean up, and of course trying what delicious things we've made! Cost is $300/month and includes all ingredients and supplies. We are proudly a CVRC and SDP vendor for all your funding needs. Please feel free to come try a class, and contact us for potential scholarships if you are in need.
